What Is the DELPOE?
The Darany Entry-Level Police Officer Examination (DELPOE) is an entry-level exam for those looking to become police officers, deputies, and dispatchers. The test will examine your observation, reading, and writing skills.
The exam consists of 169 multiple-choice questions that you will have two hours to complete. The questions are split into four different sections:
Accuracy of Observation
The accuracy of observation section is 40 questions long. You will receive a photo and have two minutes to study the image before proceeding to the questions. You will not be allowed to take notes on the photo, so you will need to remember as many details as possible about the picture.
DELPOE Sample Question 1:
Decide whether the statement is true or false based on the image. (Remember that you will not be able to reference the image on the actual exam.)
The date of the accident is July 30th.

False
Written Communication Skills
The written communication skills section is 40 questions long. During this time, you will be given various sentences and will need to identify if they are grammatically correct or not. Unlike other grammar tests, you will not need to fix the sentence. You will only need to determine if it is correct or incorrect.
DELPOE Sample Question 2:
Is the following sentence correct or incorrect?
The officer responded to the call immediately.
Correct
Incorrect
Reading for Understanding
This portion of the test consists of 35 questions. You will receive written policies or procedures to read and be asked to answer questions on the information. Luckily, this section is not a memory test, so you will have the text to refer back to when answering the questions.
DELPOE Sample Question 3:
Policy: If an officer deems it necessary to pull a driver over for a routine traffic stop, here are the steps that you should take:
Call the precinct to let them know the situation, your location, and your planned course of action.
Turn on your lights to let the driver know they are being pulled over.
Assess the area and allow the driver to pull over when it is safe. This should be in a well-lit area.
If the driver is alone, approach the passenger side window. If there is a passenger, proceed to the driver-side window but keep a few feet distance between you and the window, traffic permitting.
Announce your full name and explain why you have pulled the person over. Hand them your badge number so they can call the police station to confirm your identity.
Proceed as necessary depending on the traffic infraction.
According to the policy, what should be done first during a traffic stop?
Turn on your lights
Call the precinct
Walk up to the driver’s window
Walk up to the passenger window

These questions will be similar to the types of questions that you may encounter during a typical interview. These questions have been shown to relate to job success. While there are no technically correct answers, people who are successful in their careers have been known to select some answer choices more often than others.
