KB Home’s Pre-hire Assessments
After submitting your application, and speaking to HR on a screening call you may be asked to complete an assessment test. Not all positions will require assessments. Potential sales associates may be asked to take a situational judgment test, and some positions may require numerical reasoning testing.
Construction applicants will be asked to take the EEI CAST assessment. Whether you are in painting, drywalling, or an electrician, if you are involved in the home building trade, you will be asked to take the CAST so KB can be sure of the quality of their construction team.
EEI CAST Test
The CAST Test, or Construction and Skilled Trade Operations Test, is used for job-seekers in the construction field to make sure they have the skills to perform the job. The test will measure areas that are necessary for success.
Graphic Arithmetic – This is the ability to solve math problems based on drawings and graphs. You will have 30 minutes to solve 16 math problems relating to two images.
Mechanical Concepts – There will be 44 multiple-choice questions to measure your understanding of mechanical principles. You will have 20 minutes to complete it.
Reading Comprehension – You will be given several short passages and must use the information in them to answer the follow-up questions. You will have 30 minutes to complete the 32 multiple-choice questions.
Basic Math – This section will show your ability to work with numbers. You will have 7 minutes to complete as many of the 18 math problems as you can.
The scores from each section will be combined into a single score. The scoring system ranges from 1-10.
Interviews
Your first interview will be a phone call with HR. This conversation will last around 20 minutes. You will discuss your qualifications and the expectations of the company. If you have any questions this is your opportunity to ask them. If the screening goes well you will either be invited either for a face-to-face interview or to take an assessment at one of their offices. If you are asked to take a test, you will be contacted for an interview if your scores are adequate.
How to Prepare for KB Home’s Assessments?
To make sure you are ready for the test, and to get scores that outshine the other candidates, make sure you study for the EEI CAST. Much of the focus is placed on mathematic ability, so be sure to practice your math concepts, such as identifying which functions you need to use. Find resources that will allow you to work on your graphic arithmetic ability since working off of plans and drawings is a major skill in construction. If you feel you may be rusty on your mechanical concepts because you have not used them, review them and quiz yourself until you become comfortable with them again. Use word puzzles to help with your reading comprehension. These involve using minimal information to come to the correct conclusions. This will not only strengthen your reading comprehension but will also help with your critical thinking skills.
