Application

The MSPB (Mississippi State Personnel Board) website has recently been redesigned. Mississippi is beginning to move toward an online process, and jobs now have an online application. Applications can still be printed if necessary. To access online applications, you will need to create a profile. This will allow you to save any jobs, create a master application, and fill out job cards so you can be notified of openings that you qualify for. Openings are posted online, along with the minimum requirements. Most job postings have a supplemental questions section to fill out in addition to the application. A resume may be submitted in addition to the application, to supplement the information, but a resume will not be accepted in lieu of an application.

Not all positions will require an exam, and some exams may vary by city. Police and fire departments will take assessment tests that are the same as those given by the state. There are several types of tests that may be utilized in the exam process:

• Written Tests – Multiple choice tests used to test the knowledge required to properly perform the job duties.
• Oral Tests – Applicants for public-facing jobs may have to take an oral exam to show their speaking skills.
