Application Process
Thales accepts applications almost exclusively online. This guarantees your resume makes it to the manager who needs to see it. They will not accept applications sent through the mail or handed to a manager by a recruiter unaffiliated with them. To apply you will need to create an online profile. After this is created you can upload your CV. The more detail you provide on your application, the more likely you are to receive a call from a recruiter. Thales’ Psychometric Tests
Most candidates can expect to have to take one or more online aptitude and personality tests during the hiring process. These tests help identify the applicants who have the best chance of success. Thales typically uses tests provided by Saville Consulting. The tests will vary, based on the position you have applied for, and the country you are taking the tests in. The tests that are most routinely given include:
- Verbal Analysis – To make sure a potential candidate can make reasonable conclusions from written information, has a decent vocabulary, and can communicate well, a verbal analysis is given. During this test, you will need to read several passages, each containing information about a different subject. You will then need to answer questions about the information you have read. The questions are presented in a “true”, “false”, or “not enough information” style.
- Numerical Analysis – This test measures not only your ability to work with numbers, but also your ability to correctly interpret graphs. The questions will all be based on charts or graphs you have been given, and you must be able to interpret the information in the charts, as well as use it to solve the problems in the questions.
- Diagrammatic Analysis – This will test your ability to think abstractly. You will need to be able to interpret patterns based on the relationships of different shapes. You will need to be able to correctly identify the patterns to complete a sequence.
- Motivational Personality Questionnaire – This psychometric evaluation is measuring your personality traits. You will be given a list of personality traits and will need to rank them from 1-9. You will then be given another list and will need to decide which of the traits best describes you.
Interviews
The interview process will vary by job and location. Some candidates may first be asked to submit a digital interview. Thales will send a link and you will record yourself answering the pre-recorded questions. Others may first have a phone interview. These interviews will focus on your background and your experience.
Your next interview may be a panel interview. During a panel interview, you will sit with members of the team you have applied for, or the hiring manager and members of HR. Thales’ Assessment Center
Graduate applicants and some applicants for corporate or managerial positions will be asked to attend an assessment center to further demonstrate their qualifications. During the assessment center, you will get a chance to meet members of the management team. The day will be spent doing exercises that will show if you reflect the competencies that Thales requires.
- Group Exercise – The candidates will be divided into groups and given a fictional write-up about a company. The group will need to work together to help solve the difficulties the “company” is dealing with. Candidates will need to focus on showing an ability to work well as a team, listen to each other’s ideas, and come up with creative ways to problem-solve.
- Written Exercise – Each candidate will be given a case-study to go through. You will need to draw conclusions, and write a report detailing your findings.
- Presentation and Interview – You will be asked to prepare a presentation on a topic which the hiring team has chosen. How to Prepare for Thales’ Assessments?
You will not be able to advance in the hiring process without achieving exceptional scores on the assessment tests. To do this, you will need to set aside time to practice your reasoning skills and learn as much about Thales as possible. Logic puzzles and online learning resources can help you improve your reasoning abilities. Brushing up on your vocabulary and your math skills will also help prepare you for some of the test questions.
The psychometric tests are more challenging to prepare for. You want to be honest, and not try to “cheat” the test by picking the answers you think they want.
