What Is Verizon’s Hiring Process?

Verizon Application

To submit your application to Verizon you must create a Verizon Career Account on their website. The career account allows you to track the status of your application. The Verizon website gives you the option of uploading your resume or importing it from a

social account. After applying you will receive an email with information about the company, and the Verizon wireless credo.

Phone Screening

The next step in Verizon’s hiring process is a phone screening. They will ask some basic questions about your resume, to ensure you are a good match for the position. They will go over the requirements of your desired position and may ask some questions about your knowledge of the company, and the company credo. The phone interview usually lasts about 20 minutes.

Verizon Assessment Tests

If the phone interview goes well, you will be contacted by a recruiter to schedule an online assessment test. The assessment test has 7 parts, and you will have 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete them. The online screening consists of skills tests as well as psychometric tests. There may be some variation based on the position you have applied for, but in general, you can expect to see:

  • A Personality/Ethics Test
You will be given a series of statements and must answer “strongly agree”, “agree”, or “disagree”. Learn more about personality assessments.
  • A Customer Service Test
You will listen to a series of customer calls, and pick the best response.
  • A Data Entry Test
This test measures your listening skills. You will be asked to listen to a series of numbers and sentences and type them in.
  • Reading Comprehension
You will be given several passages to read and a series of questions based on the information given in the reading material. This verbal section is multiple choice.
  • A Multi-Tasking Test
You will listen while a “customer describes a situation. You must decide where to send them, while also looking at a list of numbers and determining if they are the same or different.
  • Numerical Table Reading
You will be given a list of numbers and letters and a grid of numbers and letters. You must determine if any of the numbers on the grid match the numbers on the list. The numerical section helps determine your skill at interpreting information presented in graphs.
  • Logical Reasoning Tests
Logical aptitude tests are designed to test your non-verbal reasoning skills. You will be given shapes, numbers or patterns to move or interpret.

In-Person Interview

The in-person interview will go more in-depth and is conducted using the STAR method. This method of interviewing involves the job-seeker and the interviewer discussing a series of situations (S), tasks (T), actions (A), and results (R). Applicants for call center and customer service positions will be asked to role-play a series of mock phone calls. You may also be asked to listen to recorded customer service calls, and evaluate how the representative handled the situation. You will most likely be questioned again about the company credo, as this is something Verizon places a great deal of importance on.

How to Prepare for Verizon’s Assessment Tests?

Without passing the online assessment test, you will not be allowed to continue in the hiring process and must wait 6 months before attempting to apply again. Proper preparation will ensure you continue to the next step. Familiarize yourself with the company. This will help you know what they’re looking for when answering customer service based questions. Take your time to carefully read the questions, missing or misreading a word can cause you to answer incorrectly. The test is timed, but don’t rush. Accuracy is more important than speed. Brush up on any skills you feel uncertain of beforehand. Practice data entry, and refresh your math knowledge. Taking the time to study and prepare will give you confidence approaching the tests, which will help you continue to the next step in the hiring process.
