What Is the Hiring Process at NEC?

Since NEC has labs in multiple locations globally, start your search by finding the correct hiring page for your location. Once you have found a position that interests you, complete the online application form and attach the required documents. Examples of documents you may need to include are your CV and research statement.

If your application meets all the criteria, one of the NEC hiring teams will contact you. Your first interview will be over the phone, and you may speak with multiple representatives from the hiring team. If the telephone interview goes well, they will have you schedule an onsite interview.

The interview process varies depending on the position. If you are interviewing for a research position, you will attend an all-day interview. Part of the interview process includes giving a presentation about your research. If you are interested in a technical role, you will have at least two rounds of interviews. One will be about your technical expertise, and the other will focus on your work style and personality.

Part of the hiring process for some jobs includes taking assessment tests. If you are a candidate for a technical role, graduate program, or internship, you will likely need to take an assessment. They may send the test to you via link, or you may need to take it onsite.

NEC Psychometric Tests

Assessment tests have become a routine part of the hiring process. They serve several purposes. They identify candidates who can learn quickly and adapt to a role. They show which candidates have the best skill set. Finally, assessment tests show which candidates have personalities and values that reflect the company’s core values.

These are some of the tests you may see:

  • General Aptitude Test This test evaluates basic skills and cognitive ability. The questions examine abilities like Numerical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Verbal Reasoning. This test is multiple-choice and has a time limit.
    • Numerical reasoning is your ability to work with numbers. These questions are word problems. The numbers you need to solve the problems are in tables and graphs. You need to be able to interpret the graphs and correctly use the numbers to solve the problems.
    • Logical reasoning is all about problem-solving. The questions might use inductive reasoning, such as identifying the missing piece of a pattern. You may also need to use deductive reasoning by using logic to determine if a statement is correct or if there is not enough information to support a conclusion.
    • Verbal reasoning is your ability to read and interpret information. These questions usually start with a brief passage. The questions then focus on the passage and whether a statement is true or false.
  • Coding Test – During the coding test, you will have to answer general knowledge questions about different types of programming. Following the coding knowledge portion is a coding challenge. They will give you a coding challenge to solve. They will evaluate you on how well your code works.
  • Situational Judgment Test This test shows how well you can problem solve and how well you can take charge and make decisions. The questions are about tricky situations that occur on the job and how you will solve the problem. You will have different options to choose from for each situation. Pick the response that is closest to how you would handle each scenario.
  • Pre-Hire Personality Test The personality survey helps give insight into your work style. It identifies the things that drive you to success and the things that may hold you back. NEC uses it to match personalities with the perfect job and to ensure candidates are a good fit for their team.
