Over 25,000 people across the globe have careers with Mastercard. It has opportunities in 15 different business sectors, and over 130 offices. Mastercard offers student opportunities in both internships and full-time entry-level positions. There are generous benefits ranging from health and wellness to retirement programs.

What Is Mastercard’s Hiring Process?

Once you have found a position online that aligns with your experience, you can submit an application. Have an updated resume or CV ready to upload and be prepared to spend around 20 minutes completing the application. If there are no jobs that currently catch your attention, join the Mastercard talent community. You can receive alerts for open positions, and updates on recruiting events in your area.

When you have filled out your application, you will have one last task to complete. There is a game-style Pymetrics test that you will be directed to complete the application process.

Your application will be reviewed by a recruiter. If you seem like a strong candidate, you will be called for a phone screening. This brief call will cover your background and skill set, and you will learn more about the role you want. You will have an opportunity to ask a few questions, so if you have any do not miss out on the chance to ask them.

If you have proven you will be a good fit, an interview with the hiring manager will be arranged. This interview lasts between 30-60 minutes and may be done either by telephone or via video call.

If the hiring manager thinks you show potential, you will be scheduled for an interview tailored for the role you want. Mastercard has 3 types of interviews Technical, Consulting, and Product Management. These interviews are done panel style, and there may be multiple interviews.

If all goes well, you will receive a call with an offer and onboarding information.

Mastercard’s Assessment Tests

Mastercard uses mostly pre-employment tests by test designer Pymetrics. Unlike traditional psychometric tests, these are designed like games to decrease testing bias and give a greater impression of the test takers’ strengths.

Pymetrics uses AI to track every step you take in the “games” to help draw a picture of your social, cognitive, and behavioral abilities. Attention, focus, effort, generosity, fairness, learning, decision-making, risk tolerance, and emotion are all measured by this test.

There are 12 games that are part of the Core Test which measures your emotional intelligence. This test takes around 25 minutes to complete.

  • Money Exchange 1 – This measures your level of trust through the exchange of money.
  • Keypresses – This is a test of your cognitive function. All you need to do is press the spacebar as quickly as possible.
  • Balloons Game – This measures how much of a risk-taker you are. You will need to fill up balloons for “money”. As you fill the balloons you earn money, if they pop before you bank it you lose the money you have earned.
  • Money Exchange 2 – This game uses money to evaluate trust and altruism.
  • Digits Game – This is a basic memory game where you will need to memorize numbers.
  • Easy Or Hard Game – In this game, you are given tasks of varying levels of difficulty, and you will need to decide whether the monetary benefit is worth it or not.
  • Stop 1 – Your attention and reaction time is measured by the speed at which you can press a button after seeing a red dot.
  • Cards Game – This is another measure of risk-taking. You will draw cards until your time is up. The cards may have either a monetary reward or a punishment. You have the ability to switch decks. The goal is to end the game with a profit.
  • Arrows Game – You will need to indicate which direction an arrow is facing. This measures your ability to learn from your mistakes and your decision-making ability.
  • Lengths Game – This game is all about your attention to detail. You will be shown pictures of faces and will decide which faces have longer or shorter mouths.
  • Towers Game – This is a puzzle that measures your skills in planning and problem-solving. There are two poles to which you will need to match different colored rings.
  • Facial Expressions – This uses faces to test your emotional recognition. You will need to identify the emotions being displayed on a series of faces you are shown.

In addition to Pymetrics, Mastercard sometimes uses different test providers that will examine the candidates on aptitude tests, SJT and personality assessments.

How to Prepare for Mastercard’s Assessment Tests?

The Pymetrics Test given by Mastercard differs from traditional psychometric testing in the way the test material is presented. You can prepare for this test easily through games you can find online. There are many apps that have games that mimic the games presented by the Pymetrics test. Seek and find games can help you practice your attention to detail, and basic memory games will prepare you for the Digits game. With this test, there are no wrong answers, as its purpose is more like a personality test. Remember this as you take the test and focus on it as a series of challenging games instead of as an employment test. This will help you relax and give you your best chance at success.
