Before uploading your resume and cover letter, read over it to make sure you have emphasized your relevant experience. HP’s Online Assessments

Like many companies, HP uses online assessment tests to ensure they only hire the best people. The online assessment tests are psychometric tests designed to not only make sure that applicants have the necessary ability to perform the job, but also that they have the ability to learn quickly. There are also behavioral tests that are given to make sure the candidate has the right personality traits to perform well on the job and is also the right fit for the HP team.

The tests that you may be required to take include:

  • Numerical Reasoning ExamThis timed multiple-choice test will evaluate your proficiency with numbers. Depending on the position you have applied for you will need to perform functions such as multiplication and division, figuring out ratios and percentages, or even just basic addition and subtraction. You will be given the numerical information you will be using in charts or graphs, followed by questions requiring the use of those numbers.
  • Verbal Reasoning Exam The ability to understand verbal and written information is an important part of most jobs, and a sign of an individual’s communication skills. This test may consist of comparing analogies or reading a brief passage and determining if the statements following it are ‘true”, “false”, or “not enough information.”
  • Logical Reasoning Exam This test will measure your abstract and inductive reasoning skills. You will need to determine the way a pattern is changing through a series of figures.
  • Personality Assessment The personality test will assess which of your personality traits are the strongest, and how that will affect your success in your desired position.

HP’s Interviews

Your first interview with Hewlett Packard will be a telephone interview. This interview will be with a hiring manager in the department you have applied for. This interview is used as an opportunity for the manager to get to know you. They will go into more detail about the job you have applied for, and you may discuss your background and qualifications. This is a good time for you to ask any questions you may have about the position. If you stand out to the hiring manager your next interview will be an onsite interview. This interview will be a mix of technical and behavioral questions. During the interviews keep the STAR method in mind. This method of interviewing allows you to provide context to your answers. You describe a situation you experienced, the task you were meant to perform, the actions you performed to complete this task, and the result of those actions. This method even allows you to put a positive spin on situations that may be considered failures, by allowing you to explain how you grew from the experience.

Assessment Center

Applicants for managerial positions and internships are often asked to attend an assessment center. During the assessment center, you will be asked to participate in exercises meant to show how well you work on a team, and how you interact with people. Management will be observing how well individuals express ideas, if they allow others to express their opinions, and if they give serious consideration to input given by others. You may also be asked to give a presentation; this could be something you were allowed to put together ahead of time or something you are given time to put together the day of the assessment center.

The exercises you may be asked to participate in include:

  • Welcome exercise
  • Group exercise
  • Presentation
