What Is Facebook’s Hiring Process?

Application Process

You can use the Facebook website to find a position across any of their platforms. Search by platform, location, or job. When updating your resume to submit, focus on your strengths and your experience to make sure that your resume stands out. Your resume can be submitted directly through the website, or you can share your LinkedIn profile. You can apply for up to 3 positions at a time. Facebook does take a critical look at the number of positions an individual applies for. If you apply for several that are unrelated they may pass over your resume thinking you are unfocused or lacking in drive. If you are chosen for an interview, but not selected to hire, you will need to wait another year before being allowed to apply again.

Prehire Psychometric Tests

Like most other corporations Facebook uses online assessments to help in the selection of their employees. These are a mix of cognitive ability and behavioral tests. These tests are given to make sure applicants have the cognitive abilities to do the job and learn new things quickly. They are also given to further explore the test taker’s skills, to find out if they have other skills that are valuable to the company.

Tests that may be given by Facebook may include:

  • The Wonderlic Assessment This test is often used as an IQ test and is used by many companies as a pre-hire cognitive assessment. The Wonderlic measures your skill in numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, and logical reasoning. All of these are important in that they are indicators of your ability to communicate effectively, problem-solve, and think critically. The Wonderlic is made up of 50 questions. You will have 12 minutes to answer each question. The test will automatically shut off after 12 minutes.
  • The CliftonStrengths Assessment This test is designed to show where an individual’s talents are, as well as their natural strengths. This test consists of 177 questions. You will be given 20 seconds to answer each one. The report generated by this test will show the hiring managers if you have the potential to be outstanding in your preferred role, or if there may be another place in the company that you may be better suited for.
  • Coding Test – This is one of the skills that you may need to demonstrate proficiency in. This test may be given if you have applied for a role that requires a strong coding ability.

The interview process differs slightly for each position. Some positions will have an initial technical interview that consists of a single technical question they need to solve. Non-technical applicants will have a phone screen that focuses on their background and experience, to make sure their qualifications are a good fit for the job. If this interview goes well you will be invited onsite for an interview. This may be done with a single hiring manager, or you may face a panel interview with multiple team members. Facebook gives more weight to applicants who have obviously spent time preparing and who have well thought out questions to ask during the interview. Asking appropriate questions about the job and the company opens a dialogue and makes an interviewee stand out. Do not be afraid to share negative experiences and what you learned from them. Companies are always on the lookout for employees who can grow from their mistakes.

How to Prepare for Facebook’s Assessments?

The competition for positions with Facebook can be fierce. This is why you need to study for the cognitive assessment test. So you stand out as the best candidate from the very beginning. The Wonderlic assessment can be very difficult if you are not prepared for it. You can help yourself work toward the best outcome by practicing the abilities it tests for. Practicing various logical reasoning questions will help you doing well in the real assessment. These are all very useful tools in preparing for the Wonderlic exam. Use practice problems and online tools to prepare yourself for the numerical portions of the tests as well. All of this practice will give you a leg up on the competition when it comes to taking the test.

Facebook and its other platforms are growing by the day. There are numerous opportunities for those interested in technology, or who have a background in another field but are interested in the company. As Facebook grows your career can too. Just identify what drives you, and prepare yourself for all the steps along the way.
